Founded in 1982, the Holy Transfiguration Monastery Bombala Cooma is a monastic community under jurisdiction of Russian Orthodox Church Abroad. It is situated in the foothills of the Snowy Mountains on the Maclaughlin River between Cooma and Bombala. The pristine alpine environment of the area dictates a rugged simplicity and isolation that is congruous with the Orthodox monastic lifestyle. The Monastery accepts visitors and pilgrims and maintains a guesthouse at a small distance from the Monastery for this purpose. The acceptable number of guests is regulated by open and closed weeks with a limit to the number of pilgrims at any given time. This has become necessary so the benefit for the pilgrim and stability of the monastic community is equally maintained and respected. This, together with weather conditions, obliges us to ask prospective pilgrims to contact us before making final plans for an intended visit. It is our wish that your visit will be of true spiritual benefit.
